Holiday Spirits

Day 30
#thedailymarker30day

Wow! How time flies! It is the last day of the 14th Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge hosted by Kathy Racoosin. And once again, it has been a great time. I enjoyed watching videos and looking at social media posts. I picked up a lot of tips and tricks from other color enthusiasts like myself. Coloring makes me happy.

For today's post, I created a bridge card using the Holiday Spirits Stamp Set by Avery Elle! I enjoy making these cards now as they lay flat and can go through the mail. On this card however, I used foam pop dots, which make it difficult for mailing. Therefore, I will need to place this in a bubble envelope and pay the additional postage. I do not not mind- this is going to a great friend!

This stamp set appeals to me as I love when my husband and friends make Egg Nog and Coquito for the holidays.  Coquito is a traditional Christmas drink which originated in Puerto Rico and means "Little Coconut" in Spanish. It is a coconut-based alcoholic beverage similar to eggnog.

I am soooooo looking forward to Coquito this Christmas! Not sure what he does, but my husband has added his on twist to his recipe and I now feel his version of Coquito is the best!

I purposely double stamped the sentiment Holiday Spirits a little bit off -as too much of my hubby's egg nog or Coquito can have that effect on you!

I just color plucked a few Copic Markers out of my case without any thought. The only thing I did know prior to coloring was that I wanted one bottle to remain clear.

The Got Joy Holiday Series is a true reflection of Dana's love of creating cards to share with family and friends! I am soooo very excited and honored to be part of this series.

I met Dana a few years ago and we quickly realized that outside of paper crafting we shared the same passion for our families, laughter, Bruno Mars, kindness, coffee, squirrels and spreading joy!

Today’s holiday card is inspired by Dana! We initially met on Periscope when she was giggling and sharing the release of The Ton’s Holiday Bows Stamps set. I fell in love with the set and eventually gained a friend! Therefore, I wanted to use the stamp set that launched our friendship to create my card!

I have a video on how I created the card. I also explain in full the story behind why the bows mean so much to me!

I was thinking of a glittery, glamorous holiday party when I created my card. I knew that along with Holidays Bows, the Wedding Haute Dress, also by The Ton, would make a stunning card. As you can see, my Holiday Bow set is well loved!

I stamped several bows in 3 sizes onto Neenah Solar White 80lb paper using my MISTI. I used Ranger Archival Ink: Aqua as the base layer and Brutus Monroe Gradient Chalk Ink: Sea Glass for the top layer.

I added highlights and shadows to each bow with the following Copic Markers: BG10, BG32, BG13, BG15, N2 and C2. I was going to apply clear Wink of Stella to the bows but changed my mind. I used my Cricut Cuttlebug to cut out the bows.

Next, I stamped out the image of the woman on Neenah Solar White 80lb paper using both Ink on 3 Fade Out No Line Coloring Detail Ink and Brutus Monroe Raven Detail Ink. I wanted to use my creative license and add an Afro to the image but needed to see how it would look with each ink medium. I decided to go with a combo of Fade Out ink on the top part of image and the Raven ink on the bottom. This way, I can add an Afro without a visible dark line underneath.

I love the Ink On 3 Fade Out Ink as it takes on the color of the medium you are using. I added the Afro and colored the image using the following Copic Markers:
Afro: C0 C01 C03 C04 CO6
Skin: E000 E00 E01
Dress: R24 R27 R29
The afro is consists of dots and small squiggly lines.

I fussy cut the image with my Tim Holtz Non Stick Serrated Snip Scissors. Placing her on top on one of the stamped images I did not use, I traced around the Afro. I then cut out the entire image with about a 1/8" border. This will be used as a background piece. I applied a generous amount of Spectrum Noir Sparkle Glitter to the dress and Black Wink of Stella to the Afro and let it dry for a few minutes. I popped my Tonic Studios Script Merry Christmas die in my Cuttlebug with a scrap of shimmery paper and Bazzill Wax Lips paper- love that name for the color red- and cut out my sentiment. I added Spectrum Noir Sparkle Glitter and adhered it to the shadow.

Now dry, I used my Tonic Studios Crafty Tacky Glue to adhere the image to the background piece I traced earlier and set aside.

I knew I wanted the bows to surround the image.  It took me about five minutes to decide on the arrangement I wanted. Once I did.....I took a few pics to recall bow placement and glued everything down to a Bazzill Wax Lips Red A7 (5X7) card base.

I enjoyed creating this glamorous Dana card! I hope you will be inspired to use your markers, stamps and creative license to make a holiday card!

Please note: The GJC Holiday Card Series runs from November 17 to December 14. Each day Dana will have a Guest Designer right here on the blog sharing their holiday card ideas just like I did here today. My First Tunnel Card!

Day 15
#thedailymarker30day

I created my very first inside tunnel card! I watched Jennifer McQuires's YouTube video over and over and over and finally decided to go for it. As I mentioned in previous posts, during this challenge, I challenged myself to create more cards! I grabbed the Diamond Press Tropical Stamps and Dies Set I purchased and hoarded from HSN a few years ago and went to work!

I used Ink on 3 FadeOut Ink to stamp the palm trees as I did not want dark lines. I then used my copic markers to color them in. The sentiment is from *Pink and Main's Hello Die Set. Oval: Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Oval Dies.

Finding Inspiration

Day 10
#thedailymarker30day

I am challenging myself to create more cards during this challenge. Card designs have always been a struggle for me even with the use of card sketches. Often I look for inspiration in magazines and online. Early this morning I came across some Any Warhol pop art and immediately though of a card to create! I grabbed my Mama Elephant Little Girl Agenda Stamp and coordinating die set, turned on some music and started creating. I love how the card turned out!

Wish You Were Here...

Day 8
#thedailymarker30day

This challenge is about opening yourself up to try new techniques! Today, I attempted to color a light shooing down on a subject. As I said...attempted. I can see the various mistakes I made; the blending of the night sky, the light under the bench and the direction of the light ( the lam post is behind the image) However, practice makes perfect and I will take a try at this again at a later date. Though I was not totally happy with the turnout, I still created a card...something else I would do this challenge...create as many cards as possible.

You may recognize the sentiment from yesterday's post as My Favorite Things* Pure Innocence Wish You Were Here Clear Stamps Set. The image is from the same set. MFT Stamps does have a lamp post die...however I felt it felt it was too small for the image. I went to Cricut* Design Space and cut one out from the Heritage Cartridge.

Heart Tree

Day 5
#thedailymarker30day

Kathy of The Daily Marker suggests that we set aside 10-15 minutes day to color during the 30 Day Coloring Challenge that she hosts. Today, I colored for about 1 minute and took another 5 to create a quick card. It was all a happy accident. I did not set my plates up correctly in my Cricut* Cuttlebug for my initial pass of the My Favorite Things* Heart Tree die. Therefore all of the pieces did not cut out. At first, I was a bit frustrated . Then, not wanting to waste paper, I thought I could turn my mistake into a card. Ususally, when I set out to make a clean and simple card, my end result is messy and complicated! I love how this card turned out!

Celebrate Creative License

DAY 6
#thedailymarker30day

I enjoy taking creative license when coloring. I will often add an Afro to an image that has been designed with another hairstyle. Today, I did just that with Toby by Julie Nutting and created a card! The ballons and sentiments are from *Pink and Main’s Box Card Dies Set🎈Do you like to take creative license with your coloring by changing a hairstyle or adding features that are not part of the original image? ! 🎨
