Day 14 Color Challenge: Sneak Peek

Work In Progress & Sneak Peek:

If you haven’t guessed by now-I am partnered with the talented Sandy Allnock for the upcoming Pass The Brush event this Thursday and Friday. Sandy is giving me the honor of taking over her Instagram  and FaceBook accounts so I may share my work, voice and journey as a Black artist.

You may recognize this image from Sandy’s post last week. I am giving you a sneak peek of the tutorial video she will be posting on YouTube tomorrow morning.

I loooove this digi stamp: Afro Girl by DigiStampAtelier on Etsy. I am coloring her on my Apple iPad as I am trying to improve my Procreate skills. I enjoy that most Copic Marker tips, tricks and techniques apply: flicking and blending just to name a few.

Proceate is fun to play with. There are no inks to refill or paper to buy. Just an initial investment of an iPad and iPencil. There are many tutorials available on Youtube. I initially took classes on SkillShare during a free trial. d

Sandy and I are really excited about Pass The Brush! Be sure to follow Sandy and #passthebrushart to stay aware of the event and participants.

Thanks for taking a peek,

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 9-DISNEY

Hola everyone!!!

Received a huge box of toilet paper from my good friend @sdeezy94 in Pennsylvania. She is a huge Disney fan, so I knew putting Minnie ears on the digital image Social Distancing Jam by @capitolchicdesigns would make her smile! I used @procreate to add the ears. Thank you @sdeezy94!

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 6: FAIRY MINI CLASS

DAY 6

I took time out this evening to enjoy the Fairy Mini Class taught by Jammie of Sweet Sentiment. I ordered the class a few weeks ago. My clear stamp: Layla by The Greeting Farm, arrived soon after. She is exclusive to the class. But work and adjusting to life during a pandemic got in the way.

The Fairy Mini Class was a great distraction from all of the craziness. Jammie teaches how to color Layla in both black line and no-line in a side by side comparison. I must admit, my no-line was not a pretty sight at all. It was SCARY!!! I am not sure if I am over-thinking my coloring or just need the love and support of lines. LOL!!!! I will keep practicing no-line and share a better version at a later date.

As you can see, I did give Layla an Afro. I love how hairstyles can change the entire look of an image.

Jammie has this and other mini classes. Check them out! >HERE<

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 5-AFRO PUFFS

DAY 5

I am looking forward to when I can enjoy a day at the beach with my family again. Addy, a digital image by The Greeting Farm, looks as if she is ready to have fun in the sun as well. I altered her by adding two afro puffs.

When adding puffs or coloring any hairstyle...I approach them as shapes. The shapes within the shapes create the texture. I view afro puffs as circles. So they are very simple to add to or alter an image with.

Take a peek at the video below to see my process.

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 3-APRIL 2020

DAY 3

I loooooove how an afro looks on SOHO by Kenny K Stamps! She reminds me of Pam Grier as Foxy Brown. I hope you are enjoying the coloring challenge hosted by Kathy over at The Daily Marker.  Coloring is a safe and relaxing way to stay indoors during this time!

AsI mentioned in a previous post, I enjoy altering my stamps to for various reasons. To make images reflect my family, friends, co-workers and neighbors is one. But. also to find other ways to add life and creativity to images.

HOW TO ADD AN AFRO TO AN IMAGE

Day 2
#thedailymarker30day

Hola everyone! Hope Day 2 of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge finds you safe and healthy! I find comfort in coloring and comedies. I try not to watch or listen to the news.

Today I added an afro to the image in the Quarantine Life Digital Set. I love how a hairstyle or hair color can change an entire look of an image. I also love I can alter an image to reflect my friends, family, neighbors and community.

I am enjoying the awesome digital stamps The Greeting Farm has added to their shop. I am coloring them and creating cards to hand out to essentials workers.

I was finally able to record how I add an afro to a stamped/digital image. It took several tries as my grandchildren continued to enter my craft room to ask questions. LOL!!!

After recording, my 3 year old granddaughter looked at the images...not yet finished and yelled with excitement that they were her and her brother! Her excitement filled my heart with joy!

Take a peek at my tutorial and let me know what you think. If you give it a adding an afro a try...please tag me on Instagram or FaceBook so I may see your work!

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY DAY 19

DAY 19

A few of you reached out to me on Instagram and asked how I created the Shirley Temple curls on Day 18's post. I used the little girl from My Favorite Things* Secret Santa Set to demonstrate.

First, I sketched out the "curls" using cone shapes over the existing hairstyle with a pencil. Then I traced over the sketch with a Copic Multiliner pen. I then erased the pencil. Continuing with the multiliner pen, I added lines over the area where I will place shadow. I then colored as usual using C2, C4, C6, C8 and C10. You can see my sketch has ribbons. After, I colored her hair, I decided not to add them.

I hope this was somewhat helpful. Give it a try.

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 18

DAY 18

Today I am sharing a Work In Progress (WIP). I have been having fun sharing my afros, but I wanted to alter this cute The Greeting Farm Laundry stamp with another hairstyle as well. I gave Shirley Temple curls a try. I am not 100% happy with the turn out but that is what this challenge is about---challenging yourself. I will change the hair covering her forehead. I will give it try again with curls or a bang.

I do like how the afro turned out. I used the dot method and all of the "squiggles" and curls came from the Copic multiliner.

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 17

DAY 17

Decided to add an afro to this adorable unicorn from the Pink and Main Magical Unicorn Stamp Set. Adorning her main with curls was actually a bit easier than trying to blend rainbow colors. I looooooooove how she tuned out and will definitely try this again in different colors!

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 16

DAY 16

Social distancing is not hard for me as I am a homebody. I enjoy hanging out with family at home or playing in my craft room. The scary part of this all, is the ugliness it brings out of some people over the fear of the lack of toilet paper or Ramen Noodles.

I am saddened for the millions of children that go without free meals provided by schools. They will miss a smile or hug given by a friend or teacher that they will not receive at home. Or the elderly and shut in that are unable to get the care and essentials they need.

I will make sure to check in on my friends and neighbors. And will look forward to the day when this is all over. Hopefully by Christmas.

I added an afro and puffs to these sweet images by My Favorite Things* Aren't they sweet?!?

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 14- AFROS & MORE BY Kathy Racoosin

Colored by: Kathy Racoosin

I am not going to post an altered image today as I would rather share another post. Our 30 Day Coloring Challenge hostess Kathy Racoosin, addressed the ignorant comment I recently received about coloring afros on her blog today: Day 14: AFROS AND MORE

When you have a chance, please read her post! Thanks for your positive comments of love and support! Remember, be kind to unkind people because they need it the most. And if you cannot be kind.....be quiet.

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 13

DAY 13

When I attempted to alter Cheeky Nurse by The Greeting Farm, I did not like the end result. Her afro looked like a big fuzzy helmut. So, I followed the outline already in place and came up with a cute hair-do!

Remember to always leave enough white space when creating your afro!

Altered cute Amaada by Ink Road Stamps. This was simple as well.  Only had to turn her bun into an afro puff remembering to leave enough white space.
