COLOR CHALLENGE DAY DAY 19

DAY 19

A few of you reached out to me on Instagram and asked how I created the Shirley Temple curls on Day 18's post. I used the little girl from My Favorite Things* Secret Santa Set to demonstrate.

First, I sketched out the "curls" using cone shapes over the existing hairstyle with a pencil. Then I traced over the sketch with a Copic Multiliner pen. I then erased the pencil. Continuing with the multiliner pen, I added lines over the area where I will place shadow. I then colored as usual using C2, C4, C6, C8 and C10. You can see my sketch has ribbons. After, I colored her hair, I decided not to add them.

I hope this was somewhat helpful. Give it a try.

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 18

DAY 18

Today I am sharing a Work In Progress (WIP). I have been having fun sharing my afros, but I wanted to alter this cute The Greeting Farm Laundry stamp with another hairstyle as well. I gave Shirley Temple curls a try. I am not 100% happy with the turn out but that is what this challenge is about---challenging yourself. I will change the hair covering her forehead. I will give it try again with curls or a bang.

I do like how the afro turned out. I used the dot method and all of the "squiggles" and curls came from the Copic multiliner.

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 17

DAY 17

Decided to add an afro to this adorable unicorn from the Pink and Main Magical Unicorn Stamp Set. Adorning her main with curls was actually a bit easier than trying to blend rainbow colors. I looooooooove how she tuned out and will definitely try this again in different colors!

DAY 16

Social distancing is not hard for me as I am a homebody. I enjoy hanging out with family at home or playing in my craft room. The scary part of this all, is the ugliness it brings out of some people over the fear of the lack of toilet paper or Ramen Noodles.

I am saddened for the millions of children that go without free meals provided by schools. They will miss a smile or hug given by a friend or teacher that they will not receive at home. Or the elderly and shut in that are unable to get the care and essentials they need.

I will make sure to check in on my friends and neighbors. And will look forward to the day when this is all over. Hopefully by Christmas.

I added an afro and puffs to these sweet images by My Favorite Things* Aren't they sweet?!?

Colored by: Kathy Racoosin

I am not going to post an altered image today as I would rather share another post. Our 30 Day Coloring Challenge hostess Kathy Racoosin, addressed the ignorant comment I recently received about coloring afros on her blog today: Day 14: AFROS AND MORE

When you have a chance, please read her post! Thanks for your positive comments of love and support! Remember, be kind to unkind people because they need it the most. And if you cannot be kind.....be quiet.

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 13

DAY 13

When I attempted to alter Cheeky Nurse by The Greeting Farm, I did not like the end result. Her afro looked like a big fuzzy helmut. So, I followed the outline already in place and came up with a cute hair-do!

Remember to always leave enough white space when creating your afro!

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 7**AFROS FOR ALL

DAY 7

Happy Saturday everyone! Yep....continuing with the afros! Today I altered these awesome images from the Tiny Heroes Stamp Set by Mama Elephant. I chose them because a few of our fellow colorists are not pleased that I am taking creative license with various images. So, my little afro wearing super heroes are here to kick some butt!

I love coloring and always enjoy participating in Kathy's 30 Day Coloring Challenges. Coloring relaxes me. Soothes me. Fulfills me. Represents me.

Being part of the coloring community I am able to learn from and share ideas with others who love pencils, markers, paints, inks and other mediums as much as I do.

When I purchase a stamp, I think of the various ways I can color and/or alter it to reflect me and my world. So, it was a bit disturbing to receive a message stating that MOST “crafters tend to solely color Caucasian skin and Caucasians do not sport afros!” Well, er uhhhh…I am not most crafters. And surprise... I am not Caucasian. I tend to color the world around me: which includes my immediate and extended family, friends and neighbors. Now this may be upsetting to some, but all of those groups include different races and nationalities.

I may be wrong, but stamp companies want artists to enjoy their products and to be as creative as our little hearts desire. Add a hairstyle, zebra print, sunglasses or shoes to your images. Go crazy! I will continue to alter my stamps. And have fun doing it.

Our coloring community is an awesome and supportive one. It doesn’t matter if you are black, white, young, old, male or female. (Yes…dudes craft too!) In our community….we color with kindness!😍

Today I put an afro on an old My Favorite Things* Wish You Were Here Stamp Set. I love that their images are so easy to alter....almost like playing with the Colorform sets I had as a child.

I was excited that Simon Says Stamp reposted my DAY 3 on Instagram as a Tuesday Tip!

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 3

DAY 3

Added an afro to this sweet image from the Fairy Power Stamp Set by Sheena Douglass.

I am having such a great time with altering hairstyles. I initially learned to color curly hair a few year ago by watching my crafty coloring sister Cynthia's YouTube Video. You can take a peek at it here...

Over the years I learned other techniques from Kathy over at The Daily Marker and from attending two of Jennifer Dove's Copic Boot Camps.

What I love about our coloring community is that we can be inspired by and learn from each other!

If you alter a stamp....tag me so I can see!

COLOR CHALLENGE DAY 1

Day 1
*contains affiliate link

I am soooooooo excited for another challenge hosted by Kathy over at The Daily Marker for her 15th-30 day Coloring Challenge! I think I came in around #2 or 3 and I have been playing along as much as I can since then!!!!

This time around I wanted to challenge my self more with coloring hair. Different styles, textures and colors. Today I added an afro to the teacher image from the Lessons in Love Stamp Set by My Favorite Things

I enjoy altering my stamps to for various reasons. To make images reflect my family, friends, co-workers and neighbors is one. But. also to find other ways to add life and creativity to images.

My daughter is a founder of Bloom Academy Charter School in Houston, Texas. Though she does not have an afro....she has curly hair and a beautiful skin tone. 100% of her students identify as black or hispanic. I hope one of my daughter's student's can see herself in this image and imagine herself as a teacher, principal, director or founder of a school as well.
